For nearly three weeks (August 25 through September 13, 2015), Roanoke will be the meeting place for representatives of our people around the world. The 22nd GC Delegation Session and public meetings will be held in this area.

History of Roanoke

According to information given by the Virginian government, “The first pioneers explored the Roanoke Valley region as early as the 17th century. An exploration party's report in 1671 told of the ‘blue mountains and a snug flat valley beside the upper Roanoke River.’ For the next seventy years, after this initial exploration, the region remained undisturbed by settlers.

The South Pacific Island country of Vanuatu was hard hit by Cyclone Pam on March 13-15, 2015. Below is an account by GC Welfare Committee Member, John Lausevic, of current aid work being done by the Welfare Department, as well as ways you can help.

With adequate warning the people were able to board up buildings able to withstand a cyclone. However many homes not built to withstand cyclones could not afford to do any boarding up. I was told when traveling around the main island of  Efate that the Official Meteorology Department Airspeed Indicator broke down at 350+ km an hour (220 mph). When a Category Five Cyclone hits a country the wind velocity is a critical factor in the safety of the inhabitants.

Are you, dear reader, a prisoner of hope? Let us go to our strong hold, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. While we remain in Him, Satan has no power to separate us from our divine safety.

After spending 70 years under Babylonian captivity as prophesied by Jeremiah, only a small remnant of about 50,000 people undertook the difficult journey back to Jerusalem. The city was devastated, the walls were broken down, and the people were surrounded by bitter enemies through whom Satan tried to hinder the restoration of the worship of the true God. Because Israel was the only people who represented the principles of heaven, Satan didn’t spare his devilish schemes to discourage and even destroy them.
